class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are so excited to announce that both the indoor track &amp; gym courts are now open.\u00a0 We greatly appreciate everyone&#8217;s patience throughout this long repair process.\u00a0 We look forward to seeing you on the courts or testing out the newly resurfaced track soon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-x-large-font-size\">Friday, August 21, 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have two big updates &#8211; first, the gym courts will open at 2 p.m. on Aug 21, and the track is scheduled to reopen on Monday, August 24!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.umflint.edu\/2026\/08\/21\/um-flint-launches-athletics-program-with-5m-grant-from-mott-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chancellor just announced that UM-Flint will be establishing a NAIA athletic program<\/a> for the 2028-2029 season and joining the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) the following season. As a part of that, we are very excited to tell you that the Rec Center will receive a multi-million dollar renovation! This will include highly anticipated items such as all-wood gym courts, air conditioning throughout the entire facility, a new front counter, windows around the track, and new locker rooms. The scope of this project is very large, and this work must be done on a rapid schedule to ensure the building is ready for varsity teams in fall 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As such, we were recently informed that work in the Recreation Center is scheduled for January 2027 through summer 2028.&nbsp;During that time, the Rec Center will be closed &#8211; however, we will be relocating strength equipment, cardio equipment, and fitness classes to a newly designed <em>temporary<\/em> space in the University Center.&nbsp;We\u2019re sure you have many questions on what will be the temporary space, and you may <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/e\/2PACX-1vTM0pJGG3-OM7EO73wQyKRsPxnUnTa6k8yg28tmAUIolCedMX90fqNYPLgUl9Ez1-FglgF7GfxFPW7t\/pub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u><strong>view additional details here<\/strong><\/u><\/a>.&nbsp;Once renovations are complete in summer 2028, we will move everything back into the Rec Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We understand that our current facility spaces may have been the main reason why you chose to get a membership at the Rec Center.
