Project Description: The Michigan Humanities Council State Scholar supports local sites and libraries who are hosting the traveling Smithsonian Museum on Mainstreet exhibit. The State Scholar assists with program consultation and deliveries one public lecture for each host site.  Each lecture requires research with primary source material at host sites to compile information about the relationship between sport and community in local places around Michigan.  The student researcher will conduct research at 7 libraries in the state of Michigan and accompany the faculty to meetings with the Michigan Humanities Council in Lansing, Michigan.

Student Tasks & Responsibilities: 

  1. Conduct research of online databases (jstor, project nuse etc.)
  2. Conduct research using Microfilm reader
  3. Conduct research of local records including newspaper, vertical files, and oral interviews
