Free Little Library
FREE LITTLE LIBRARY
In the Summer of 2017 the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety launched the Read with a Cop program in the River Village Apartments in Flint, MI to promote reading. This Little Free Library was donated and installed with the help of our campus and community partners.
“We have gone through hundreds and hundreds of books,” said UM-Flint Director of Public Safety Raymond Hall. “The children bring the books home and share them with neighbors and family members. When a little person rushes up to an officer and tells them what their book is all about and how many pages they have been reading, that type of interaction is what makes this all worthwhile.”
"Wow!" That's how DPS describes the support we enjoy from our faculty, staff and students. In just two weeks that year, DPS received over 800 book donations to the "Little Free Library". DPS also thanks the United Way of Genesse County, Flint PD, Kettering University and the entire UACC!
This is an example of the transformative power of partnerships to create a community that is more safe, prosperous, inclusive and sustainable! It takes all of us working together for the good of our community!!!!
