UM-Flint Requirements

These courses can be completed along with the Pre-Business courses and/or after being admitted to the BBA Program.
Be sure to check the current online catalog for any prerequisites that may be required.

General Education Requirements
  • 1st-year experience (Can be waived with 25+ transfer credits)
  • ENG 112 or EHS 120 (prerequisite: ENG 111 or equivalent)
  • Financial & Quantitative Literacy (completed as part of the pre-business requirements – SCM 211)
  • Fine Arts (3 credits) 
  • Global Studies (3 credits) 
  • Health & Wellbeing (3 credits) 
  • Humanities (6 credits) 
  • Natural Science w/ Lab (4 credits) 
  • Social Science (completed as part of the pre-business requirements – ECN 201 & 202)
  • Technology (completed as part of the pre-business requirements – BUS 115)
  • Capstone (will be covered by MGT 489 in senior year)

BBA Business Focus Elective

Take two (2) courses (at least 6 credits). See an academic advisor for course details.

Pre-Business

Pre-Business courses can be completed along with the UM-Flint's General Education Requirements. All of these courses (and all applicable prerequisites, which can be found in the current online catalog)
must be completed or in-progress to apply to the School of Management BBA Program. 
*Students may be admitted conditionally if they are currently enrolled in the last of their pre-business requirements

  • MTH 111 - College Algebra
  • ECN 201 - Marco Economics
  • ECN 202 - Mirco Economics
  • ENG 111 - College Rhetoric
  • ENG 112 - Critical Writing & Reading
  • COM/ENG 338 - Business Communications (prerequisite: ENG 112)
  • SOC 100 or PSY 100 (Marketing or IB majors must take PSY 100)
  • BUS 110 - Business Concepts and Careers
  • BUS 115 - Intro to Business Applications (COMG 153 from Mott will count – contact SOM if COMG 153 was taken at Mott and BUS 115 is not yet waived in MyDegreePlan)
  • ACC 201 - Financial Accounting (prerequisite: MTH 111 or placement into MTH 118, and at least sophomore standing)
  • ACC 202 - Managerial Accounting(prerequisite: ACC 201, and at least sophomore standing)
  • SCM 211 - Business Statistics (prerequisite: MTH 111 prerequisites depending upon math placement exam results, and BUS 115)
  • BUS 250 - Contemporary Legal Issues for Business

Admission to BBA Program

In addition to completing the Pre-Business courses, students must have a composite GPA (a weighted average of the cumulative GPA from all transcripts) of at least 2.20 , and an updated program plan approved by a School of Management advisor to be admitted to the School of Management. 

To apply to the School of Management, students must complete a formal request on Student Infomation System (SIS) under Student Services. Students may be admitted conditionally if they are currently enrolled in the last of their pre-business requirements.

From there, go to Student Records - Bachelor of Business Administration Program Admission and submit your request. 

You will be asked what your major is. From there you will receive a confirmation email will be sent to your official school email on instructions to complete an online orientation.
