About SOM Student 2 Student Program

The purpose of this program is to promote meaningful engagement among students in the campus community to promote academic success, student involvement, and networking with community resources. Mentors will accompany mentees on a variety of professional development events.

This program is to link freshmen and transfer students with upperclassmen to aid new students in their transition to UM-Flint.

Become a Mentor

Juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to engage first year pre-business students in a professional manner. Mentors will assist pre-business students by sharing their own experiences, knowledge, and study skills obtained through the business program to heighten academic success. Mentors will act as a resource to guide career and professional development.

Become a Mentee

A student will have the opportunity to engage with upperclassmen to obtain knowledge regarding on-campus resources and gain the insight on navigating their academic degree plan. The mentee will also have opportunities to meet with experienced professionals from a variety of career paths, participate in group activities, and tour companies throughout Michigan. 

Eligibility

  • Incoming freshmen, pre-business students, or transfer student

Incentives

  • Make a connection on-campus
  • Receive advice from peers
  • Learn more about the university and gain direct access to university support systems
  • Increase level of student involvement in activities and organization
  • Engage in networking opportunities

Mentors

Mentor Role

Qualifications:
  • Must be a student enrolled in the BBA Program
  • Must have completed 60+ academic credits at UM-Flint
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA
Benefits:
  • Serve as a resource to guide students’ academic, personal, and professional growth
  • Develop coaching, leadership, management skills
  • Engage students in on campus activities
