Strategic Transformation
Initiative Overview
For nearly 70 years, the University of Michigan-Flint has served our region by providing opportunities for professional development, growth and innovation. As a public institution, we are committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities for students to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to fulfill the workforce needs in this region and state.
Following a nationwide trend, UM-Flint has experienced a downward enrollment trend over approximately 10 years. We are excited to report a promising reversal in that trend with our fall 2023 enrollment numbers across our undergraduate and graduate programs. We want that upward mobility in enrollment to continue and accelerate. To this end, we have engaged in a Strategic Transformation planning process.
During the 2022-2023 academic year, the campus was asked to re-envision the university’s future. Former Chancellor Deba Dutta shared the results of this initial planning phase with University of Michigan President Santa Ono and the Board of Regents in spring 2023.
As we begin the new academic year, Interim Chancellor Donna Fry is engaging the campus in the refinement of the initial plan and integration of the plan’s academic and student services portions. She will also contact the community to seek input and support for the transformative plan. Once the plan is finalized, Fry will present the plan to Ono and the Regents, seeking funding to support plan implementation.
The overall goal of the strategic transformation is to help UM-Flint emerge as an academically strong and financially viable institution that is an undisputed engine for economic growth and social mobility in the region.
Additional information and updates about the Strategic Transformation initiative will continue to be posted to these webpages as they become available.
