Subject: Announcing the 2017 Strategic Planning Steering Committee
We are pleased to announce the launch of UM-Flint’s 2017 Strategic Planning Steering Committee. This committee, which is advisory to the Chancellor and Provost, comprises a broadly diverse group of faculty, staff, and students, and will include alumni and community representation as well. We developed this committee in close collaboration with faculty leaders Chris Douglas, Cathy Miller, and Greg Laurence, and in consultation with their respective committees: Faculty Council, Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Budget and Strategic Planning, and the Academic Affairs Advisory Committee. The Deans, Cabinet, Staff Council and Student Government Association also had a chance to provide input. We received nearly 90 nominations from every part of campus, and we appreciate your input, which helped us to shape such a terrific committee.
The Steering Committee will work over the remainder of the 2016-17 academic year to design and implement a strategic planning process that results in a focused set of 4-6 high-level priorities that will guide the university for at least the next five years. It will conduct its work in a highly transparent and inclusive manner, consulting widely across the campus and community and sharing information regularly about its progress.
We are especially grateful to Hiba Bahaeldine Wehbe-Alamah, Associate Professor of Nursing, who has agreed to chair the Steering Committee. Dr. Wehbe-Alamah is nationally and internationally known for her contributions to transcultural nursing. She teaches nursing at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels focusing on women’s health and transcultural healthcare, conducts and chairs qualitative research and capstone projects with graduate nursing students, and advises students enrolled in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs. Her clinical practice centers on women’s health and the underinsured, working with local public health departments.
A complete list of Steering Committee members is posted on our strategic planning website at https://www.umflint.edu/strategicplanning2017. If you have questions or ideas relevant to strategic planning, you may write to the committee at email@example.com.
The work of this committee will be vital in shaping our strategic direction, guiding resource allocations, and ensuring that our university is successful far into the future. We are immensely grateful for the willingness of these committee members provide leadership for this important process.
