Howard Hughey was appointed to the position of Director of News and Media Relations in 2017. With more than 17 years of public relations and marketing experience, he has had the privilege of holding key leadership positions in both the public and private sectors allowing him to manage an array of effective integrated marketing communications campaigns across the U.S. As director, Howard manages the internal and external communications efforts for the campus community through its University Communications and Marketing office. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Grand Valley State University and has public information training and certification by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross.
Melissa has been with UM-Flint for over 15 years and focuses on budget and account management, strategic marketing development, media solutions, and brand management. Melissa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree from the University of Michigan-Flint and a Master of Arts in Public Relations and Organizational Communication from Wayne State University.
Andrea has been with the university for over 15 years in a variety of roles. As Assistant Director of Digital Stategy, she is reponsible for the research, development, and implementation of digital content strategies on behalf of the university, including the website, social media, and new media. She enjoys collaborating with departments and students on how to best tell their UM-Flint story in the digital space. Andrea has her bachelor’s in Communication and her master's in Brand Management.
Bill has spent the past twenty years as a communications professional in the higher education and non-profit industries. Prior to joining the UM-Flint team in 2015, he worked for the University of Iowa, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Washington, DC-based Advocates for Youth. At UM-Flint, Bill serves as a liaison to key academic, administrative, and business units across campus to partner in the development and implementation of strategic communications objectives and plans aligned with university priorities.
As the Senior Creative Strategist in University Communications and Marketing, Tricia works with all departments on campus to visually represent the University of Michigan-Flint brand. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Saginaw Valley State University, and has been with UM-Flint for almost 10 years.
Lindsay Dinsmore is the Office Administrator for University Communications & Marketing. She has a wide variety of responsibilities such as maintaining and updating the DAM, reconciling p-cards, and assisting with the planning of various campus events. She is an expert at organizing and loves helping others. She really enjoys her job and being a part of the UM-Flint campus.
Robert spent more than a dozen years as a newspaper reporter, including a decade in New England. He graduated from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and Sociology.
As senior writer, Robert writes features, trend stories, and news pieces about the University of Michigan-Flint. He highlights and profiles the great work by students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Originally from the Grand Rapids area, Bob graduated with degrees in Organizational Communication and Business Administration from Alma College. He earned his Master of Arts in Applied Communication from the University of Michigan-Flint. Prior to joining the university's communications and marketing team in 2004, he spent five years working as a copywriter/producer for Detroit and Flint area advertising agencies. At UM-Flint, Bob's main resposibilies are brand, creative, and content strategy.
