Tobacco Free Policy

Effective November 17, 2022, the University of Michigan prohibits the use of all tobacco products in order to promote healthier campuses.

The prior Smoking on University Premises policy (SPG 601.04), has been updated and retitled to Tobacco-Free University Premises. This updated policy includes the ban of electronic nicotine delivery systems, or ENDS, i.e. vapes, vape pens, e-cigarettes, e-cigars, hookah pens, etc. and smokeless tobacco products, i.e. dip, chew, snuff, snus, etc. in all university owned and operated buildings, facilities and vehicles on U-M’s campuses in Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint.

The policy relies on peer support, supervisory oversight and voluntary compliance.

Let’s all work together to ensure that our campus is tobacco free!
