Student Veteran Experiences
From Air Force crew chief to state AI policy
Dallas Watkins started his UM-Flint coursework online while serving as an Air Force helicopter crew chief. After returning home, he finished his bachelor’s degree, earned a master’s in artificial intelligence and now helps shape AI policy for the state of Michigan. His GI Bill® benefits covered both degrees, and the Student Veterans Resource Center staff guided him throughout.
“They really want to help you and watch you succeed.”
Dallas Watkins, U.S. Air Force veteran, BBA and M.S. in Artificial Intelligence
Online from Alabama, connected in Flint
Army veteran Kyle Cantrell studies software engineering online from Huntsville, Alabama. On his one visit to campus, he made a point of stopping by the SVRC. He left with practical help navigating the university, a way to meet other student veterans and a team ready to advocate for him.
“I felt that bond as soon as I walked into the SVRC office.”
Kyle Cantrell, U.S. Army veteran, online M.S. in Software Engineering
