Policy Statement

Students may repeat a previously completed course in order to improve their grade. Grade improvement would not apply to courses that are designed to be taken multiple times. The most recent grade will be the grade of record whether or not it is the highest grade earned. For repeated courses, the attempts excluded from the grade-point average will be marked with an E and the grade of record will be marked with an I designating the inclusion of the course in the grade-point average calculation.

Transcript Notation

UM-Flint transcripts will reflect grades earned in all UM-Flint courses. Transfer students who successfully repeat a course at UM-Flint for which transfer credit has been awarded will lose the transfer credit when it exceeds the allowable maximum repeat credit for the course. Courses repeated at another institution after an initial attempt at UM-Flint will not receive transfer credit, nor will they improve their UM-Flint grade point average.

Rackham Programs

Students in Rackham Programs should review the policies for the Rackham Graduate School on repeat guidelines as they may differ from non-Rackham programs.
