Message from the Vice Provost for Academic Strategy & Effectiveness

As the Vice Provost for Academic Strategy & Effectiveness, I have the privilege of supporting institutional effectiveness through several key functions. My portfolio includes oversight of academic program review, coordination of student learning outcomes assessment across the university and service as the institutionโ€™s Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Higher Learning Commission. I also oversee the Office of Institutional Analysis, which provides critical data and analytics to inform planning, decision-making and continuous improvement.

Since joining the University of Michigan-Flint over two decades ago as a faculty member in computer science, I have consistently been guided by a commitment to academic integrity, evidence-based improvement and collaborative problem-solving. These values shape my approach to leadership and reflect a deep respect for the role of faculty, staff and students in shaping our institutionโ€™s future.

Stephen W. Turner

In all my work, whether facilitating accreditation processes, guiding assessment practices or improving the accessibility and transparency of institutional data, I aim to build useful, inclusive systems grounded in shared purpose. I believe meaningful change happens when we align our efforts with clear goals, honest reflection and a spirit of continuous learning.

I look forward to working with colleagues across campus to strengthen our universityโ€™s mission and support student success in every form it takes.

Go Flint and Go Blue!
