Turn Your Experience Into Academic Credit
The University of Michigan-Flint appreciates that learning can and does take place outside of college courses. Whether you have numerous years of work experience, have earned licensure or certifications, or have served in the military, these learning experiences and credentials may be eligible for awarding you academic credit at UM-Flint.
To get started, complete the CPL Form for Current Students and the Coordinator for Credit for Prior Learning will contact you to discuss your responses, explore the possibility of earning academic credit, and chart the next steps in the review and approval process. Please note that academic credit is awarded based on demonstrated and documented learning, not on years of experience. Such demonstration and documentation can take the form of licenses or certificates earned. Alternatively, you may wish to demonstrate and document your learning by aligning your learning with the learning outcomes of one of our courses through a portfolio review. Please review the university’s Catalog to identify the most relevant course or courses. Whether you apply for credit via certificates, licenses or a portfolio, faculty at the university who are experts in their fields will evaluate and potentially approve awarding academic credit. At the University of Michigan-Flint, only the faculty have the authority to approve the awarding of academic credit.
