Ergonomics

Is the “science of designing work environments and processes for the people who use them”. Environment, Health & Safety works with M Healthy and the U-M ergonomics team to increase awareness of ergonomics resources available to University of Michigan-Flint faculty and staff.

Prevention

EHS provides free initial ergonomic evaluations for any faculty or staff member interested in preventing discomfort while performing job tasks. During the recent pandemic, EHS provided initial ergonomic evaluations for workers who were working remotely via phone or virtual platforms. An ergonomic evaluation can identify work-related factors that may pose a risk of illness or injury. EHS also provides loaner office equipment to employees to try before they buy, upon request. If interested in either of these programs, please contact EHS for further information.

Medical Ergonomics Program

MHealthy will provide a free medical ergonomic evaluation e for any faculty or staff member who is currently under the care of a physician, chiropractor, or therapist related to the discomfort experienced during the workday. In order to schedule a medical ergonomic evaluation, you must first have the physician’s prescription/referral form filled out by your healthcare provider. The form must then be faxed to the MHealthy Medical Ergonomics Program.
