Dual Enrollment Application Process
Applying for Dual Enrollment
Are you a motivated high school student ready to challenge yourself with college-level coursework? UM-Flint’s dual enrollment programs are designed for students who excel academically and are eager to get a head start on their college journey. Review the qualifications below to see if you’re eligible—and learn how to begin your application process for Early College, DEEP or traditional dual enrollment.
Dual Enrollment Program Qualifications
Dual enrollment is open to highly motivated high school students. Eligibility is determined through a selection process and criteria developed collaboratively by the school district and UM-Flint.
General Expectations for Program Enrollees:
- A minimum overall grade point average of 3.0.
- A demonstrated interest in pursuing post-secondary studies in a relevant professional field.
- The capability and motivation to succeed in rigorous college-level coursework.
- A favorable recommendation from a school principal or counselor, addressing the applicant’s academic preparation in a college preparatory curriculum—this includes successful completion of at least three years of high school English with strong writing skills, as well as other indicators of readiness.
Some specialized DEEP programs may have additional requirements.
Dual Enrollment Application Process
Whether you’re applying for Early College, DEEP or traditional dual enrollment at UM-Flint, you’ll need to complete two steps. Application deadlines vary by district; most are due at the end of February or early March for the following academic year. Please check with your guidance office for your specific date.
1. Paper Supplemental Application
This one-page form is available in your high school guidance office, or you can print a supplemental application at one of the links below:
- Print only DEEP and Early College Supplemental Application
- Print only Traditional Dual Enrollment Supplemental Application
Both the student’s and the parent/guardian’s signatures are required. By signing, students waive certain FERPA rights, allowing the university and their high school to communicate about their application and share their grades/transcripts each semester. Return your completed paper supplemental application to your high school guidance counselor by your school’s deadline. They will return your supplemental application, along with a copy of your high school transcripts, to our office for review and processing.
2. Online Application
Next, complete the free UM-Flint online application. Use a personal email address, not your school email, as some districts block university emails.
- For DEEP and Early College applications, select “DEEP and Early College Application.”
- For Traditional Dual Enrollment applications, select “Undergraduate Student” as your student type, then choose “Dual Enrollment.”
Submit your online application by your school’s established deadline.
3. Next Steps
After you submit your online application and paper supplemental application, we will work with your high school to finalize your admission. You will receive periodic email updates from our office regarding the status of your application.
After you are admitted to UM-Flint, you will begin to receive emails with instructions on how to create your university login account, register for your summer dual enrollment orientation session, and prepare for the upcoming fall semester.
You can reach out to us anytime at flint.k12@umich.edu if you have questions.
