Policy Statement
The university acknowledges that graduate-level learning acquired through professional experience may be eligible for credit, subject to the university’s maximum transfer credit policy. Students should consult their academic units for specific guidelines regarding eligibility, evaluation methods, and applicable credit limits. Credit for prior learning is evaluated as transfer credit and cannot exceed program or university transfer credit limits.
Evaluation Methods
Credit for prior learning may be evaluated through methods such as:
- Challenge Exams: Oral, practical, or written assessments designed to measure mastery of graduate-level knowledge and skills.
- Individualized Assessments: Department-appointed committees may conduct portfolio reviews, performance-based assessments, or other demonstrations of competency.
- Industry Certifications and Credentials: Certain professional certifications or licensures may be reviewed for alignment with graduate coursework.
Assessment Standards and Fees
All prior learning assessments must align with the academic standards and rigor of graduate education. Portfolio review and internal examinations and individualized assessments may carry a fee to cover the expenses associated with faculty review and assessment.
For questions about graduate credit for prior learning, please contact the Director of Graduate Programs in the Office of the Graduate Programs.
