Data Collection
As part of our Quality Initiative, we are enhancing how we collect and analyze data on student career outcomes and experiential learning. This includes expanding participation in surveys such as the First Destination Survey and developing centralized systems to track internships, micro-credentials and co-curricular engagement. Improved data collection helps us measure impact, identify equity gaps and refine our approach.
What We’re Tracking
Our data collection efforts focus on key indicators that help us understand how well we’re preparing students for career success:
- First Destination Outcomes: Employment status, graduate school enrollment, and salary information for recent graduates
- Experiential Learning Participation: Internships, co-ops, applied research, and community-based projects
- Micro-Credentials and Certifications: Industry-recognized credentials earned alongside degree programs
- Co-Curricular Engagement: Student involvement in career-related activities, workshops, and professional development
- Employer Feedback: Insights from industry partners on graduate preparedness and skill alignment
First Destination Survey
The First Destination Survey captures information about what graduates are doing within six months of completing their degree. This national survey, aligned with standards set by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, known as NACE, provides valuable insights into employment rates, salary ranges and graduate school enrollment across programs.
We are working to increase survey response rates to ensure our data accurately reflects the outcomes of all graduates. If you’re a recent graduate, watch your email for the survey invitation—your response helps us improve programs for future students.
How We Use This Data
The data we collect serves multiple purposes across the university:
- Program Improvement: Academic departments use outcome data to refine curriculum, strengthen career-connected learning, and address skill gaps
- Equity Analysis: We examine outcomes across student populations to identify and address disparities in career readiness and success
- Accreditation and Reporting: Data supports institutional accountability and demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement
- Student Advising: Career outcome information helps advisors guide students toward high-impact experiences and career pathways
Centralized Tracking Systems
We are developing centralized systems to better capture and report on experiential learning across the university. These systems will enable us to track student participation in career-connected experiences, monitor progress toward institutional goals, and provide timely data to faculty and administrators for decision-making.
Data Privacy
All data collection follows university policies and federal regulations, including FERPA, to protect student privacy. Individual responses are kept confidential, and data is reported only in aggregate to protect student identities.
