Externship Alignment Metrics
Externship proposals, experiences, and final deliverables must address one or more of the following institutional alignment metrics:
| Alignment Metric | Description | Faculty Externship Contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Skill Perceptions (students, faculty, employers) | Degree to which each group believes the curriculum supports necessary technical and durable skills | Faculty gathers insight from employer supervisors and compares perceptions; informs curriculum revision and communication |
| Technical Tools Alignment | Incorporation of industry-standard tools, platforms, and equipment | Faculty observes workplace tools, evaluates current program gaps, and proposes adoption plans or instructional strategies |
| Curriculum Content Alignment | Degree to which curricular content matches knowledge, competencies, and evolving industry expectations | Faculty documents applied knowledge required in the role and maps those competencies to course outcomes |
| Pedagogical Practice Alignment | Instruction reflects real workflows, problem-solving, and authentic scenarios used in practice | Faculty identifies real practice patterns and develops case studies, simulations, assessments, or applied experiences |
| Faculty Technology Adoption | Faculty ability to use and integrate discipline-specific technologies and digital tools | Faculty gains hands-on experience, training, or observation and develops an adoption or integration plan |
