Mission/Vision Values
In early November 2025, an eight-question survey was sent to faculty, staff, students, alumni and external stakeholders as part of our review of the University of Michigan-Flint’s mission and vision statements. This survey helped us articulate a set of institutional values that will guide our approach to mission-aligned work and help achieve our vision. Responses to this initial survey:
- Guided development of a follow-up survey that
- Affirmed our current mission statement.
- Selected a more future-focused vision statement.
- Generated a word cloud of our institutional values.

Strategic Planning Process Feedback
In late December 2025, two listening sessions were held to gather campus input on the strategic planning process. The link below provides notes from these listening sessions.
Identification of Strategic Plan Themes
The UM-Flint community was invited to participate in one of six brainstorming sessions in February 2026 to identify the highest-priority themes to be incorporated into the UM-Flint strategic plan. Summaries from these sessions will be posted soon on the Data and Input page.
Candidate Goal Feedback Survey
In early April 2026, campus stakeholders were invited to provide feedback on 22 candidate goals that were inspired by the new UM-Flint vision and informed by feedback collected during the February engagement sessions.
Goal Refinement Open Forum
We invite you to join us on April 29 from 1–2:30 p.m. in UCEN Michigan Room D or via Zoom. During this session, we will present the seven draft goals refined from the 22 candidate goals based on feedback collected through the goal feedback survey and facilitate an open forum discussion to guide further refinements of the goals that will be presented to the cabinet for inclusion in the 2026-31 UM-Flint strategic plan.
