BSW & MSW Licensure Statement
Important note regarding BSW and MSW licensure
Beginning July 1, 2024, prospective students and applicants will no longer be eligible to enroll in licensure programs unless the program satisfies the applicable educational requirements for professional licensure or certification requirements in the state, territory, or district (“State”) in which the student will be located at the time of enrollment per new institutional certification requirements under 34 CFR 668.14(b)(32).
However, even if licensure requirements are either not satisfied or not known to be satisfied, prospective students can still be accepted into the program under the condition that they have first attested that they intend to seek employment in a State where requirements are known to be satisfied. This attestation can be obtained as part of the application process itself or through procedures added for conditionally admitted students.
Each State Board of Social Work makes the final determination on a candidate’s eligibility to apply for and be granted licensure. State educational requirements for BSW and MSW licensure are subject to change, and the University of Michigan-Flint cannot guarantee that all such requirements will be satisfied through completion of the Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work program.
If you’re interested in obtaining a social work license at the BSW or MSW level, we encourage you to confirm your eligibility to satisfy all educational requirements with the State Social Work Board in the specific state or U.S. district/territory where you wish to become licensed.
