School of Nursing State Authorization Statement

Effective July 1, 2024, the University of Michigan-Flint will implement new enrollment criteria for programs leading to professional licensure and certifications. Only applicants who are located in a state where the program’s educational requirements are known to be satisfied will be eligible for initial enrollment. Any student whose primary residence is outside of Michigan must ensure that their current address is accurately updated in University databases. This step is crucial for fulfilling the new location-based enrollment criteria.

An exception is in place for those who may not currently meet these location-based requirements. Applicants can still be admitted into their desired programs if they provide written attestation that they intend to pursue employment post-graduation in a state where the licensure or certification prerequisites are known to be fulfilled.

Prospective students should be aware that individual state licensure boards have the authority to make the definitive decision on qualification for licensure. As such, requirements can evolve and may differ by state or territory. The University of Michigan-Flint cannot assure the adherence of its programs to state licensure requirements indefinitely.

Applicants and students are strongly encouraged to verify their individual eligibility to meet all educational stipulations with the appropriate state licensure board for their targeted location of practice by meeting with their School of Nursing Advisor.

All out-of-state applicants will be required to meet with an advisor before starting any graduate programs to re-review state requirements, as the above determinations are subject to change.

All out-of-state applicants will be required to meet with an advisor before enrolling in any graduate programs to review state requirements. The determinations below are subject to change daily.

UM-Flint School of Nursing is not currently accepting international applicants to its online programs due to regulatory, licensure, and placement constraints.
