LGBTQIA2S+ advocacy
The Center for Gender and Sexuality is the home for LGBTQIA2S+ advocacy, belonging, and programming on the UM-Flint Campus. Led by the LGBTQIA2S+ Coordinator, we host numerous programs throughout the year to celebrate and uplift the LGBTQ+ community, including Transgender Day of Remembrance, Lavender Graduation, and Campus Pride Week. We engage in advocacy and education throughout the university to make this campus an inclusive home for LGBTQ+ community members.

PRIDE Student Organization
PRIDE (Promoting Respect, Individuality and Diversity for Everyone) strives to provide and maintain an open, safe, and inclusive atmosphere for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersexed, allied, asexual, and pansexual (LGBTQQIAAP) students at the University of Michigan-Flint. We are a social, educational, and support organization. Students of any identity can become members of our organization. It’s our hope to make you feel comfortable and accepted in our community.
Report a Campus Climate Concern
A campus climate concern can include actions that discriminate, stereotype, exclude, harass or harm anyone in our community based on their identity (such as race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, culture, national origin, religious commitments, age, (dis)ability status, political perspective and other variables related to life experience). Concerns may stem from fear, misunderstanding, hatred, or stereotypes. Behaviors may be intentional or unintentional.
Title IX Office
The Equity, Civil Rights & Title IX Office is committed to ensuring that all staff, faculty and students have equal access and opportunities, and receive the support needed to be successful regardless of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight or veteran status. Additionally, we are committed to the principles of equal opportunity in all employment, educational and research programs, activities and events, as well as to the use of affirmative actions to cultivate and maintain an environment that fosters equal opportunity.
Counseling and Psychological Services
Counseling and Psychological Services provides services to enrolled students that help to maximize their academic and personal potential. CAPS offers therapy, referrals to outside agencies, and crisis services to enrolled UM-Flint students. Students are encouraged to talk to counselors about their mental health concerns, relationship issues, family conflict, stress management, adjustment issues, and more. CAPS counselors are on call 24/7 to assist students with after-hour emergencies. The services provided are confidential; CAPS counselors can’t share any information without written consent. All services are provided at no charge to students.
Center of Global Engagement
The mission of the Center for Global Engagement at the University of Michigan-Flint is to cultivate globally-minded citizens and promote cultural diversity supported by strong relationships, engaged learning experiences, and reciprocal partnerships.
Intercultural Center
The work of the ICC is built on the foundation of social justice and upheld by three pillars: belonging, advocacy, and education. Everything that comes from the ICC aligns with one or more of these pillars.
Local Resources
Wellness Services
Wellness AIDS Services is located in Downtown Flint. It’s a safe space where individuals and couples can get tested for HIV and STIs and get free condoms and lube. Members of the LGBT community can drop in and hang out, attend educational workshops, help plan and attend events, use a computer or watch some television. We are here to be a space where you can be yourself without concerns.
Affirmations (Ferndale, MI)
A community center located in Ferndale serving the LGBTQIA2S+ population. Offers support groups (both in-person and virtual), low-cost mental health services, and many resources.
Michigan Organization on Adolescent Sexual Health
MOASH mobilizes youth voices, engages community partners, and informs decision-makers to advance sexual health, identities, and rights, serving youth up to age 24.
Transgender Michigan
Transgender Michigan’s primary mission is to provide advocacy, support and education while serving to create coalitions in the state of Michigan to unify and empower transgender and gender non-conformist communities.
