Why choose UM-Flint’s Online RN to BSN program?

As nurses take on more responsibilities in health care operation, research, and health education, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) supports the baccalaureate degree as the minimal preparation for professional nursing practice. Many hospitals have changed their employment requirements for RNs, hiring BSNs first—or hiring only BSNs.

University of Michigan-Flint’s nationally-recognized online RN to BSN program is built to help you adapt to the current healthcare environment as a highly educated, responsible nurse leader.

The curriculum aims to strengthen working nurses’ overall competencies on the job and covers many crucial subjects in nursing and health care, including community health, health promotion, nursing research, leadership, and disease prevention.

The nursing core courses incorporate an experiential learning experience which includes approximately 16 hours of community-based volunteer work in our community course and approximately 24 hours of job shadowing in our leadership course. Students may complete their experiential learning requirements in hospitals, community clinics, health departments, schools, or other suitable organizations.

The flexible curriculum also empowers students who aspire to grow into leadership roles to earn additional certificates in Leadership and Management or Case Management with one to two add-on elective courses. The successful completion of these certificates not only refines your skills in leadership and case management but also prepares you for national exams and to be nationally certified.
