UM-Flint offers an array of undergraduate and graduate nursing certificate programs that can significantly enhance your resume and earning potential. These certificates are designed to provide you with specialized skills and knowledge, setting the stage for new career opportunities and advancement.
Both the graduate and undergraduate certificates at UM-Flint are structured with flexibility in mind. The undergraduate certificate programs are offered entirely online, allowing you to balance your education with personal and professional commitments.
The nursing certificate programs are available to two types of applicants:
- Students pursuing BSN degrees at UM-Flint
- Practicing nurses
Nursing Leadership and Management Certificate
The Nursing Leadership and Management Certificate helps you develop leadership skills. The curriculum includes one course in health policy for nursing, two in nursing leadership and management, and one that you choose from nearly a dozen options.
Nursing Case Management Certificate
The Nursing Case Management Certificate validates your knowledge of case management, which is constantly evolving due to rapidly changing expectations of clients, providers, and payers. The certificate includes two courses about case management in health care and single courses in health policy for nursing and community health nursing.
Nursing and Healthcare Informatics Certificate
The Nursing and Healthcare Informatics Certificate helps you become a powerful resource to improve the standard of care as you learn to track health data and clinical outcomes that lead to improved patient safety and quality of care. The certificate includes two courses in nursing and health care informatics and single courses in health care technology and legal and ethical applications of health information.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program at the University of Michigan-Flint is for RNs passionate about the care of sexual assault survivors and interested in training to perform forensic exams. The program will provide RNs with the required didactic and clinical training to work as an adult/adolescent or pediatric/adolescent SANE in Michigan. RNs who complete the program will be prepared to sit for the International Association of Forensic Nurses SANE-A or SANE-P certification exams. Nurses willing to work as SANEs in a rural or medically underserved community in Michigan will be considered for grant support.
Nursing Graduate Programs at UM-Flint
In addition to the certificate programs, UM-Flint’s School of Nursing offers a wide variety of graduate programs. They lead to master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, or graduate certificates:
- Online BSN to DNP with MSN
- Online MSN-DNP Advanced Practice
- MSN-DNP in Executive Leadership
- Dual Nursing Practice/Business Administration: DNP/MBA
- Nursing: Adult Gerontology Acute Care Post Master’s Certificate
- Nursing: Psychiatric Mental Health Post Master’s Certificate
All nursing degree and certificate programs at the University of Michigan-Flint are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
UM-Flint’s College of Health Sciences offers two master’s degree programs of its own that complement those offered by the School of Nursing: the Master of Science in Physician Assistant and the dual Master of Science in Physician Assistant/Master of Business Administration.
