We are so excited to announce that both the indoor track & gym courts are now open.  We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience throughout this long repair process.  We look forward to seeing you on the courts or testing out the newly resurfaced track soon!

We have two big updates – first, the gym courts will open at 2 p.m. on Aug 21, and the track is scheduled to reopen on Monday, August 24!

Second, the Chancellor just announced that UM-Flint will be establishing a NAIA athletic program for the 2028-2029 season and joining the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) the following season. As a part of that, we are very excited to tell you that the Rec Center will receive a multi-million dollar renovation! This will include highly anticipated items such as all-wood gym courts, air conditioning throughout the entire facility, a new front counter, windows around the track, and new locker rooms. The scope of this project is very large, and this work must be done on a rapid schedule to ensure the building is ready for varsity teams in fall 2028.

As such, we were recently informed that work in the Recreation Center is scheduled for January 2027 through summer 2028. During that time, the Rec Center will be closed – however, we will be relocating strength equipment, cardio equipment, and fitness classes to a newly designed temporary space in the University Center. We’re sure you have many questions on what will be the temporary space, and you may view additional details here. Once renovations are complete in summer 2028, we will move everything back into the Rec Center.

We understand that our current facility spaces may have been the main reason why you chose to get a membership at the Rec Center. Work on the track repairs is progressing as scheduled!  We anticipate reopening the courts in the third week of August, with an exact date to be announced.  The track is expected to reopen the last week of August, once the new track flooring is installed.
