Freshman Pre-Orientation Checklist

Below is a checklist of important items to complete prior to your orientation. These will help you to be better prepared for your session.

Before Attending:

  1. Take your placement exams, if needed. You can find them in your Canvas account here: canvas.flint.umich.edu. Log in with your uniqname and password. Students are asked to complete placement exams at least two weeks prior to orientation, if at all possible. Placement exam results are necessary to guide academic advising and course registration.
  2. If you or your guest need accommodations or have dietary restrictions please email us at orientationflint@umich.edu so we can assist you. 
  3. Beginning in March: Take the College Student Inventory (CSI)  Check your UM-Flint email (email.umich.edu) for the link to your CSI. The subject line will be “UM-Flint Critical Steps: Take the College Student Inventory (CSI).” At orientation, you will schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor to discuss the results of this survey.   
  4. Complete the Sexual Misconduct Training online module. This program is UM-Flint’s online sexual assault and prevention program that all students are required to take. Visit my.umflint.edu and within the “Popular Links & Services” section, select Sexual Misconduct Training. You will need to log in with your uniqname and LAN password. 
  5. Complete the Anti-Hazing Module located in Canvas.
  6. Get your MCard. The MCard is your UM-Flint photo identification card that gives you access to different resources on campus. This online portal allows you to submit an appropriate identification photo. Submitted Mcard photos are subject to approval, and should resemble a traditional Driver’s License or other ID photo. Complete your request online two weeks before your Orientation session.

Day of Orientation: 

  1. If your Orientation is held in the Riverfront Center.
  2. If your Orientation is held in the University Center or the Murchie Science Building – Please park in the Mill Street parking ramp. Address: Mill Street Parking Deck 402 Mill St Flint, MI 48502
  3. You will need your UMID#, unique name and password to complete some of the activities – please be sure to bring them if you don’t have them memorized! Don’t forget your charged device for DUO!
  4. If you are feeling unwell the day of your orientation, we ask that you please reschedule the orientation session you attend. You can reschedule your orientation in SIS under the tab New Students Menu then click Register or Reschedule an Orientation.
