Curriculum Overview
UM-Flint offers a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, a Bachelor of Science in Economics, and a minor in Economics. We also offer a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Social Sciences.
BA in Economics
You’ll build on your foundational studies in foreign language and U.S. Diversity or Global Studies courses to explore core economic theory, gain valuable skills in statistics and mathematics, and hone your interests through a selection of electives.
BS in Economics
This more focused program starts with an in-depth study of economic theory and principles, moves into key statistics and mathematics courses, and offers the option to dial in your data analytics skills.
Economics Minor
This 18-credit program dives into micro- and macroeconomic theory, providing an intermediate-level understanding of these important global forces.
BA in Integrated Social Sciences
Explore the intersection of people and their economic, social, and political institutions. You’ll have the option to select a primary discipline, complemented by two other disciplines, from anthropology, economics, history, political science, psychology, and sociology.

The skills you gain in either our BA or BS in Economics programs will ensure you develop flexible, highly transferable skills across many fields. Many of these careers are growing at an average or above-average rate. Employment of data scientists, in particular, is projected to grow by 34% through 2034.

Admission Requirements
Whether you’re a first-year student or a transfer student, we aim to keep the admissions process simple, saving you time and money. We accept applications on a rolling basis; however, we recommend submitting all application materials at least 1 month before you plan to start your first semester. Academic Advisor
Scholarships for Economics students
UM-Flint provides scholarships for economics majors through the Economics Scholarship Fund. To be eligible, you must have a GPA of 3.5 or more and have completed at least 12 credit hours of economics classes at UM-Flint.
Our Office of Financial Aid also offers a variety of other scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study opportunities. They’re all part of our effort to make your world-class University of Michigan-Flint education affordable.
