Today, we honor Laura Lynne Lucas, at age 49, of Lapeer, Michigan, who passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, after a tenacious battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), surrounded by her loved ones.
Laura was born August 27, 1976, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, to Alan Lucas and Phyllis Thompson.
Laura will be remembered as a dedicated, loving mother, a beloved educator who adored her students, and a fierce gun violence advocate. Laura was a witty, clever, hard-working woman who earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in engineering management from Lawrence Technological University, and was known for being an adept tinkerer who had an uncanny ability for fixing things.
Laura loved surrounding herself with houseplants and often planted strawberry and tomato plants in her yard. She was also a big card player and delighted in playing euchre when she had a chance. Laura will be remembered for her abundant laughter, easy smile, and zeal for life.
She is survived by her children Rayenna Sutton, Ashlynne Sutton, and Dylan Lucas, as well as her father Alan (Coleen) Lucas, brother Kenneth (Amanda) Lucas, and niece and nephew Anna and Alan Lucas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis, and grandmother, Glenna Thompson.
