Scholarship Opportunities for Veterans

The employees of the Student Veteran’s Resource Center have compiled a list of scholarships currently available for Veterans and their family members. Whether you served your country last year; twenty years ago; or are a family member of a Veteran, there are scholarships available for you! To access the comprehensive list, please visit the Student Veteran Resource Center located next to Subway in the University Pavilion, or visit the scholarship website. If you have questions regarding the scholarships or would like assistance filling out the applications, please visit the Student Veteran’s Resource Center or call 810-766-6835.

Eligibility

  • Must be a veteran (dependents not eligible)
  • Must be attending a university, college or trade school in the state of Michigan
  • Must provide a copy of your student ID
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (an unofficial transcript will be accepted)
  • Must submit a copy of your DD214
  • Must be a member of one of the following Veteran organizations:
    • VFW
    • American Legion
    • AM Vets
    • Purple Hearts
    • DAV
  • Marine Corp League
  • Must provide a copy of your membership card
  • Must be a resident of the state of Michigan

 


University of Michigan-Flint Merit Scholarships

All qualified students are considered for merit scholarships during the admissions process with consideration given to students whose applications for admission are received by the application deadline. Selection criteria include GPA, academic course load, rank in class, personal essays and letters of recommendation, extracurricular involvement as well as standardized test scores. If you would like more information on the following merit scholarships please contact the Admissions Office.

Michigan Scholar Award
Awarded to entering freshmen, this four-year, full-time tuition and fees award also carries a $600 per year book allowance.
Chancellor's Scholarship
Awarded to entering freshmen, this four-year award covers full-time tuition and fees.
University Scholar Award
Two years of full-time tuition and fees awarded to entering transfer students with an associate's degree or significant number of transferring credits.
 


Michigan Competitive Scholarship
 
  • Awarded by the Michigan Department of Education
  • $50-$1,300 per year to undergraduate students carrying at least 6-12 credit hours per semester. Awards pro-rated based on number of credits per semester.
  • The amount awarded may be affected by the receipt of additional grants or scholarships.
  • Awarded on ACT score and need
  • Michigan residency required
  • Student must maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • Students must file the FAFSA by posted State of Michigan deadlines (March 1st) for this award.
  • The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of ten semesters, with renewal based on continued need and satisfactory academic progress.
