School of Nursing State Authorization Statement

The University of Michigan-Flint will implement new enrollment criteria for programs leading to professional licensure and certification. Only applicants who are located in a state where the program’s educational requirements are known to be satisfied will be eligible for initial enrollment. Any student whose primary residence is outside Michigan must ensure that their current address is accurately updated in university databases. This step is crucial for fulfilling the new location-based enrollment criteria.

An exception is in place for applicants who may not currently meet these location-based requirements. Applicants may still be admitted into their desired programs if they provide written attestation that they intend to pursue employment after graduation in a state where the licensure or certification requirements are known to be fulfilled.

Prospective students should be aware that individual state licensure boards have the authority to make final decisions regarding eligibility for licensure. Requirements may evolve and can differ by state or territory. The University of Michigan-Flint cannot assure the continued alignment of its programs with state licensure requirements.

Applicants and students are strongly encouraged to meet with their School of Nursing advisor to verify their eligibility to meet all educational requirements with the appropriate state licensure board for their intended location of practice.

All out-of-state applicants will be required to meet with an advisor prior to starting any graduate program to review state licensure requirements, as these determinations are subject to change.
