Registering for classes

Registration Information

It is important to meet with your advisor every semester to insure that you know which classes for which to register and to remain on track for a timely graduation. Click to schedule an appointment with an advisor.

Students must register for classes in the Student Information System (SIS). Please use these step-by-step instructions on how to register for classes.

Up-to-date registration days and times can be found on this page from the Registrar.

If you submit a change of curriculum form after the 10th day of the semester, the major change will take effect at the start of the next semester.

This will provide you with a filtered list of classes offered for that semester that fulfill general education requirements.

All students have the option to waitlist for a class that is full. Please remember that putting yourself on a waitlist is not a guarantee that you will eventually receive a spot in the class. Here are full instructions on how to waitlist for a class.

A few important things to keep in mind:

  1. You can only waitlist for a class that does not have a time conflict with any of the other classes for which you are registered.
  2. You cannot register for one section of a class and waitlist for a different section of the class.
  3. Notifications that you have received a spot in the class are sent only to your UM-Flint email address.
  4. You have 48 hours from when you first receive the notification that a spot is available to log in to SIS and register for the course.
    1. If you miss this window, your spot will be offered to the next student on the waitlist.
  5. Advisors are not able to add/move/remove students from the waitlist.
  6. Waitlists expire 48 hours before classes begin each semester. At this time seats are available on a first come, first serve basis.
  7. Credits for waitlisted courses are not counted towards your overall credit count until you register for the course. For example, if you are registered for 10 credits and waitlisted for four credits, you are only registered for 10 credits.
