
English Proficiency
If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following methods:
- Submit Official Test Scores (within the past 2 years)
- TOEFL iBT: 79 (institution code 1853)
TOEFL iBT (Score after 1/16/26): 4.5 - TOEFL Essentials: Overall score of 8.5
- IELTS (Academic only): 6.5
- Duolingo English Test: 110
- Cambridge English: B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 176
- Pearson PTE Academic: overall score of 56
- Michigan English Test (MET): Overall score of 52 (B2 level)
- ECPE: Certificate of Proficiency
- TOEFL iBT: 79 (institution code 1853)
- Provide Proof of English Study in the U.S.
- Official transcript showing a degree earned at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university
- Fulfillment of English Proficiency Requirement by Nation of Origin
- If you have completed a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in one of the countries on the English Proficiency Exemption List, and the medium of instruction was English, you are not required to submit additional proof of English proficiency. Regardless of your country of citizenship, the Office of Graduate Programs may require proof of English proficiency if your degree was earned at a non-English medium institution or in a region where English is not the primary language.
If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident you may request a waiver of this requirement from the Director of Graduate Programs. You must provide sufficient evidence that you have the requisite English proficiency. Please note that some programs or departments may prohibit exceptions to the requirements.
