What Sets UM-Flint's Nursing Certificates Apart?
In addition to flexible online coursework, you will benefit from the practical hands-on experience of clinical site visits where you will care for actual patients under the close supervision and mentorship of experienced nurses and physicians. Upon completing a certificate, you will be eligible to sit for the respective exam.
Psychiatric Mental Health
Acquire the specialized skills and experiences to provide mental health services for a diverse population of patients across their life-spans. Offered in a online format, the post-graduate certificate in psychiatric mental health allows you to complete the required coursework in as little as four semesters while continuing to work. Students in this program are required to complete clinical hours for children, adolescents, and adults. Also, minimal campus or area visits (3-6) are required as part of this post-graduate certificate.
Adult Gerontology Acute Care
The demand for acute care providers in the adult population is increasing. Veterans’ medical centers, emergency departments, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, and other settings need employees with the skills to manage acute illness. This post-master’s certificate program enables graduates to fill open positions in acute care settings. Students in this program are required to complete clinical hours for adults.
Nurse Educator
The national demand for nursing faculty is well documented. Continuous advancements in health care and technology coupled with an aging population requiring nursing care has led to the need for additional faculty in the workforce, as reported by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Current master’s programs in nursing are not producing a large enough pool of potential nurse
educators to meet the demand. The University of Michigan-Flint’s Nurse Educator concentration prepares students to meet these demands.
Through a rigorously structured program, students are equipped with skills, education and training to be academic nurse educators in a variety of settings. Nurses with this qualification may teach students in schools and colleges of nursing as well as medical centers and hospitals.
