Graduate Transcript Policy for Domestic Students

Transcripts (academic records) for all colleges/universities attended, regardless of whether a degree was earned, are required. Refer to the admission requirements of the program for which you are applying to verify any variations in this policy.

All colleges/universities should be reported within the online application, including the University of Michigan-Flint and any credits transferred into a University of Michigan-Flint degree. It is up to you to contact each institution you have attended and listed on your application, and request that a transcript be sent to:

Office of Graduate Programs
University of Michigan-Flint
251 Thompson Library
303 E. Kearsley Street
Flint, MI 48502-1950
FlintGradOffice@umich.edu

An official transcript from the issuing institution is sent directly to UM-Flint. It must bear the college seal, date, and registrar’s signature.

Many colleges and universities use electronic transcript systems such as Parchment and Clearinghouse to manage the ordering, processing and secure delivery of student transcripts. Official electronic transcripts may be sent to FlintGradOffice@umich.edu. Transcripts sent directly from an institution electronically are considered official; transcripts sent from a student electronically are not considered official.

If you attended UM-Flint, your UM-Flint transcript will automatically be sent from the Registrar to the Office of Graduate Programs*; there is nothing further you need to do. If you previously attended UM-Flint and submitted official transcripts from other colleges and universities at the time you were admitted, they may still be on file, and we will attempt to obtain those transcripts on your behalf.  If they are no longer on file, it will be your responsibility to request those transcripts directly from the issuing institutions.

*If you are using the Centralized Application System to apply (CASPA, OTCAS, PTCAS, SOPHAS) you will need to request your official University of Michigan-Flint transcripts and send them to CAS.

While unofficial transcripts may be used for an admission decision, any offer of admission will be conditional until official transcripts are received. This conditional admission may prevent the distribution of financial aid and registration in future semesters.

The Registrar’s Office must issue any unofficial transcripts from your university; we cannot accept printouts from your institution’s student transcript portal. Unofficial transcripts can be submitted in the following ways to UM-Flint:

  1. Uploaded with the online application; Uploads should include the applicant’s name, institution name, and all courses/grades. Once the application has been submitted, we can review the uploaded documents for processing to complete your checklist item(s). Though the checklist appears automatically after submission, uploaded transcripts will not be marked as Complete/Received until after they have been processed.

Submitted electronically via email to FlintGradOffice@umich.edu. Unofficial transcripts should be sent from the email address you utilized for your online application and sent as PDFs; a separate PDF attachment for each institution attended. Unofficial transcripts should include the applicant’s name, institution name, and all courses/grades.
