Find Your Field of Study in Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy offers a wide range of interesting and challenging courses, designed for Philosophy majors and minors, general education students, and students majoring in the many other disciplines that connect naturally with Philosophy.
For students majoring in Philosophy, our program provides preparation for graduate work, or for employment in any field that requires analytical training, cogent reasoning, and clear self-expression. Many of our majors have succeeded brilliantly after graduating from the University Michigan-Flint with a BA in Philosophy.
Philosophy is not just a subject; it is also a method. Philosophy emphasizes analytical skills connected with logical thinking, careful reading, and clear writing. This, combined with its connections to many other disciplines, makes the study of philosophy appropriate for students contemplating graduate work in a variety of fields. In addition, success in today’s workforce is increasingly dependent upon good reasoning and communication skills. Studying philosophy can promote the development of these skills. The department offers three majors and two minors, with most of the required courses being available online.
