Outdoor Spaces

The following spaces are available for outdoor activities on a first-come, first-served basis:

  • First Street Lawn – soccer goals (no lights)
  • W.S. White Field – open field for flag football, ultimate frisbee, kickball, etc. (no lights)
  • Coming Soon: University Pavilion annex – pickleball court (enclosed and equipped with lights; open dawn to 8 p.m.)

UM-Flint also has an Outdoor Recreation Club, a student organization that organizes campus gatherings and local outings. Learn more on the club’s campus connections page.


Bicycle Rentals

Students, faculty/staff, and rec center members are eligible to rent bicycles from the Recreation Center. For long-term and group rentals, please contact Assistant Director, Ervin Leavy at 810-762-3484 or leavy@umich.edu to get started.

Off-Campus Opportunities

UM-Flint students, faculty and staff can participate in outdoor adventure trips, programs and certifications offered through UM-Ann Arbor Rec Sports. Rest assured, trips are crafted with beginners in mind, and all the necessary gear is included. Note: To register for these programs, Flint users must create a login for the first time. The “university login” option only works for Ann Arbor students, faculty and staff.

The Flint River Trail is accessible from the Recreation Center, as a portion runs through campus. In addition to walking or running the trails, you can rent a bike to explore the trails.

Genesee County has many beautiful outdoor recreation opportunities. These include beaches, disc golf courses, parks, fishing sites, and nature preserves, all of which can be explored on the Genesee County Parks & Recreation site.
