The opening of the University of Michigan-Flint’s First Street Residence Hall in 2008 ushered in a new era for the university. UM-Flint now offers students the “total college experience.”

The First Street Residence Hall boasts apartment-style suites for two to four students, complete with kitchen, laundry facilities, wireless internet, and other amenities. UM-Flint’s Department of Public Safety and residence hall staff monitor the facility 24/7. This state-of-the-art living/learning environment is home to over 300 UM-Flint students every semester.

But most of all, living in the residence hall fosters deep bonds, lasting memories, and a sense of community and camaraderie that will be cherished long after graduation.

Studies show that students who live on campus tend to:

• Complete more credit hours and have higher grade point averages
• Get involved and become part of the campus community
• Express greater satisfaction with their undergraduate experience
• Persist and graduate with greater frequency
• Make use of campus resources, including the library, staff, faculty, recreation facilities, and general support services with much greater frequency
