Supply Chain Management Curriculum

The MS in Supply Chain Management curriculum consists of core and elective courses designed to enhance your understanding of the business landscape, the intricacies and logistics of the supply chain, and effective practices relating specifically to overseeing work in supply chain management.

From diving into advanced business analytics and learning to make data-driven decisions to becoming skilled in risk management to identify and mitigate threats, our program expands your expertise and provides practical strategies for managing all aspects of the supply chain. With the advanced concepts and business theory you acquire, you build a specialized skill set that supports you as a competitive job candidate and a well-rounded leader.

Your master’s program culminates in a hands-on capstone experience. Additional Degree Completion Information

Students with a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management may be eligible to waive two courses from the program based on courses taken during their undergraduate degree program. In such cases, students may be asked to replace those waived courses with elective courses from the SCM program.

Important rules for students with a business or other relevant background:

  • Students with a business or other relevant degree can waive up to nine credit hours if they have taken two relevant undergraduate courses for each graduate-level course they wish to waive.
  • Students wishing to transfer from other graduate-level programs can waive up to nine credit hours if the SCM faculty approves their existing coursework to be equivalent to MS in SCM courses.
  • MITx Micromasters students can complete the MS in SCM by transferring their micro master’s courses for nine or 12 credit hours, as detailed below:
    • SCM 512 can be waived with courses equivalent to SCM 211 Business Statistics and SCM 313 Intro to Business Analytics.
  • University of Michigan-Flint’s BBA graduates who may have taken undergraduate versions of cross-listed courses are not asked to repeat those courses. Instead, they can take a larger number of courses from the electives to complete 21 credit hours.
  • No matter how many courses a student has from prior education, they must complete at least 21 credit hours in UM-Flint’s master’s program.

Admission Requirements (No GRE)

When applying to UM-Flint’s Master of Science in Supply Chain Management program, you must meet the criteria to qualify:

  • Admission to the MS in Supply Chain Management program is open to qualified graduates with a bachelor’s degree in the arts, sciences, engineering, or business administration from a regionally accredited institution
  • Applicants with a three-year bachelor’s degree from an institution outside of the US may be eligible for admission at the University of Michigan-Flint if it is determined through the credential review process that the three-year degree completed is equivalent to a US bachelor’s degree.
  • The University of Michigan will consider a three-year degree from India equivalent to a US bachelor’s degree if the degrees have been earned with a minimum of 60% marks and the awarding institutions have been accredited by India’s National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a grade of “A” or better.

This program can be completed 100% online or on campus with in-person courses. Students living abroad may also complete this program online in their home country. For other non-immigrant visa holders currently in the United States, please contact the Center for Global Engagement at [email protected].

As a new academic degree, this program is not currently accepting applications from international students seeking an F-1 visa. This program will accept applications from international students who must have an I-20 as soon as authorization from the Department of Homeland Security is received.

Special Requirement for Citizens of India

Applicants who attended an institution in India where the language of instruction was exclusively English cannot use that method exclusively to meet the English proficiency requirements. Applicants who attended a verified English-medium institution must also submit an approved test score or use one of the other approved methods. Those with a 5.0 IELTS score will be eligible for standard admission and will have no further English proficiency requirement; those below a 5.0 IELTS score will not be admitted.

*If you are a US citizen or permanent resident and wish to waive this requirement, you may make your case to the director of the program. The director, in turn, must make the case to the Dean of Graduate Programs. You must provide sufficient evidence that you have the requisite English proficiency.

**The university reserves the right to require an applicant to provide other evidence of English proficiency if independent sources cannot verify that the language of instruction was exclusively English.
