Membership Policies

In addition to the information listed on the Policies page, the following policies will be observed concering memberships:

Eligible Member Definitions

UM-Flint Student
Any undergraduate or graduate student (full or part-time) who is taking classes during the current semester as a UM-Flint student with a valid MCARD.

UM Faculty/Staff
Any University of Michigan employee with a current appointment.

Special Status
Any UM-Flint student who is not taking classes in the current academic semester, but was taking classes in the previous semester, is eligible to purchase a Special Status membership for one semester. University of Michigan students from the Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses who are registered in the current semester, and UM-Flint contract employees are also eligible for special status membership. Membership must be paid on a monthly basis in order to ensure eligibility.

Roommate
An individual living at the same residence as an eligible primary Recreation Center member, may become a Recreation Center member in the same membership category as the sponsoring member. Each primary individual member is allowed one roommate membership. Proof of residence is required from the primary member and the roommate. A valid State of Michigan photo ID and at least one of the following are required: checking account, voter registration card, energy bills, subscription magazines, etc. Roommates of students are assessed the student family rate.

UM Alumni
Any graduate of the University of Michigan (Flint, Ann Arbor and Dearborn) is eligible. Proof of graduation is required (diploma, alumni assn. membership card, etc.)

Genesee Early College (GEC) Students
GEC students not enrolled in college courses are provided with membership privileges during the academic year, but only if a parent or adult sponsor has a current membership and accompanies the student while in the Recreation Center.

Business Group
A number of individuals employed by companies or affiliated with organizations are eligible for group user discounts. Click here for current list of business groups.

Non-University
Any person who does not meet one of the above definitions.

Family Memberships

Family members must live in the same household and provide photo identification and proof of address.  Limited to five immediate family members. The first person in the household is charged the primary member rate in their membership category. The additional family members are charged according to the fee schedule in the primary member’s category. The same ID requirements for roommates apply to family members.

Seniors

Seniors age 62 and over receive a 50% discount on membership, day pass and locker fees. 

Children/Youth

Effective September 28, 2020, Recreation Center access will be available to students and members ages 13 and over only

  • Youths Ages 13 - 17 who are children of members may become Youth Members at the regular membership price in the sponsor’s membership category. An adult member, parent or sponsor must be present for the Youth Member to be admitted to the Recreation Center, and the sponsor must be accessible within the Recreation Center at all times during the Youth Member’s visit. The adult member, parents or sponsors must be 18 years of age or older. Youth Members may participate in Fitness Classes, Cybex Area, Cardio Room, and Free Weight Room only under direct adult supervision.

Refunds/Cancellations

Annual memberships may be cancelled. For prepaid annual memberships, refunds will be calculated based upon the month-to-month rate from the date of payment to the date of cancellation. Iyengar Yoga will be refunded in full prior to the second class of the session. Prorated refunds will be given if the class is cancelled during the session. No other refunds will be granted.
