In addition to the information listed on the Policies page, the following policies will be observed concering memberships:

Eligible Member Definitions

UM-Flint Student

Any undergraduate or graduate student (full or part-time) who is enrolled in the current semester as a University of Michigan-Flint student, and presents a valid student identification. UM-Flint faculty & staff who are also students must pay faculty staff membership rate.

UM Faculty/Staff (50% appointment or greater or Adjunct Faculty)
Any UM employee, with a current appointment of 50% or greater (must be benefit eligible), or any Leo-member, and present a faculty/staff identification.

Special Status

Any UM-Flint student who is not enrolled for the current academic semester, but was enrolled in the previous semester, is eligible to purchase a Special Status membership for one semester.

University of Michigan students from the Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses who are registered in the current semester, and UM-Flint contract employees with a 50% appointment or more are also eligible for special status membership. Membership must be paid on a monthly basis in order to ensure eligibility.

Roommate
An individual living at the same residence as an eligible primary Recreation Center member, may become a Recreation Center member in the same membership category as the sponsoring member. Each primary individual member is allowed one roommate membership. Proof of residence is required from the primary member and the roommate. A valid State of Michigan photo ID and at least one of the following are required: checking account, voter registration card, energy bills, subscription magazines, etc. Roommates of students are assessed the student family rate.

UM Graduate

Any graduate of the University of Michigan (Flint, Ann Arbor and Dearborn) is eligible. Proof of graduation is required (diploma, alumni assn. membership card, etc.)

Business Group
A number of individuals employed by companies or affiliated with organizations are eligible for group user discounts. Click here for current list of business groups.

Non-University

Any person who does not meet one of the above definitions.

Family Memberships

Family members must live in the same household and provide photo identification and proof of address.  Limited to five immediate family members. The first person in the household is charged the primary member rate in their membership category. The next two family members are charged according to the fee schedule in the primary member’s category. The additional two family members are charged half-off the qualifying rate. Members must pay for the three highest-priced memberships. The same ID requirements for roommates apply to family members.

Seniors

Seniors age 62 and over receive a 50% discount on membership, day pass and locker fees. Seniors are also eligible for lifetime memberships.

Children/Youth

Child care is not available, and children may not wait on court sidelines or play in another area while the parent/sponsor participates in adult recreational activities such as playing basketball, walking/running on the track, using exercise equipment, participating in fitness classes, etc.

  • Children Age 5 and Younger Admitted Free
    Children of members may become “Limited Access Child Members.” Limited Access Child Members may participate in recreational activities in designated areas only and must be directly supervised at all times by a parent or sponsor age 18 or older. Limited Access Child memberships are designed for supervised recreational experiences on the gym floor, in a racquetball court, in the pool, and/or participation in formal programs developed by the Recreation Center staff specifically for children. Adult sponsors who are not members must purchase a day pass to accompany the child in the Recreation Center.
  • Youths Ages 6-12 who are children of members may become “Limited Access Youth Members.” Membership fees are reduced 50% in the sponsor’s membership category. Limited Access Youth memberships are designed for supervised recreational experiences on the gym floor, in a racquetball court, in the pool, and/or participation in formal programs developed by the Recreation Center staff specifically for children. Limited Access Youth Members must be supervised by an adult (age 18 and older), and ARE NOT permitted in the Cybex Area, Cardio Room, Free Weight Room, Whirlpool Spa, Saunas, or in the area of the Track. Adult sponsors who are not members must purchase a day pass to accompany the youth in the Recreation Center.
  • Youths Ages 13 - 15 who are children of members may become Youth Members at the regular membership price in the sponsor’s membership category. An adult member, parent or sponsor must be present for the Youth Member to be admitted to the Recreation Center, and the sponsor must be accessible within the Recreation Center at all times during the Youth Member’s visit. The adult member, parents or sponsors must be 18 years of age or older. Non-member parents or sponsors must purchase a day pass for entrance to the Recreation Center. Youth Members may participate in Fitness Classes, and use the Track, Cybex Area, Cardio Room, Free Weight Room, Whirlpool Spa, and Saunas only under direct adult supervision.
  • Youths Ages 16 - 18 members do not need a sponsor.  However, youth members 16-18 may not sponsor other minors under 18.


Children six years of age and older must use gender-appropriate locker rooms. When direct supervision of youth members is not required, the adult sponsor must be accessible within the Recreation Center.

Refunds/Cancellations

Annual memberships may be cancelled. For prepaid annual memberships, refunds will be calculated based upon the month-to-month rate from the date of payment to the date of cancellation.  For perpetual memberships, if member cancels before 12 months of continual deductions, a $50 early termination fee will be imposed before purchasing a new membership.  If member has held the membership for longer than 12 months, no penalty fee will be assessed. Leisure activities classes will be refunded in full prior to the second class of the session. Prorated refunds will be given if the class is cancelled during the session. No other refunds will be granted.
