The University of Michigan-Flint offers free tutoring and Supplemental Instruction sessions to enrolled students!
Supplemental Instruction
SI means “Supplemental Instruction,” in which a trained SI Leader who has successfully completed the course attends classes with students and holds weekly review sessions. You have to study for your class anyway – so why not do it with someone who has successfully completed the course?
Supplemental Instruction provides students in specific courses with weekly group study sessions. These sessions are led by a trained SI Leader who earned a B or higher grade when they took the course, and who has been selected by the course faculty.

Print-Only Fall 2025 Supplemental Instruction Schedule.
You will be reviewing the material discussed in class that week with other students and the SI Leader. You will also work every week on the content discussed in class and assigned by the course instructor. That means you will be much better prepared for your exams and other coursework.
Supplemental Instruction is effective! Studies demonstrate that students who attend SI do better on average than those who do not attend SI. They are more likely to pass the course, have higher grades, and increase their GPA.
Individual Tutoring
Individual, one-on-one tutoring appointments are available for many 100- and 200-level courses, as well as for selected upper-level classes. How to Schedule an Individual Tutor Appointment with TracCloud at UM-Flint
- Go to umflint.TracCloud.com and sign in with your UM name and password. You’ll then be taken to the TracCloud Dashboard. Click on the “Schedule an Appointment” block.
- Your classes, as long as we have tutors for them in the system, along with some Student Success Center subjects (SSC), will appear (see explanation of SSC- topics at the end of this document).
- Select the course or SSC-subject you’d like a tutor for and click “Search.” Don’t select the “Reason” box.
- Look through the green blocks of available time and select one by clicking in the center of the block.
- Click “Confirm” and then close out the appointment box by clicking on “Close” in the lower right corner of the appointment box.
- On your Dashboard, you can check the listings to find the appointment you made as well as upcoming appointments. If you need to cancel, just click the “X” at the upper right; if you want to edit the appointment, click on the “pencil” symbol.
And that is how easy it is to book an appointment in TracCloud. If you need further help, email mkassel@umich.edu
Online Appointments: If you have an online appointment, go to the upcoming appointment in the schedule on your dashboard an hour or less before and click on the online symbol to get into the appointment (your tutor may also email you a link, but it is best to go into the appointment through the system). The SSC- topics help you find a tutor for Adobe programs, such as Adobe Illustrator, Learning Strategies, which are tutors who help you with study skills for any course, Math for Non Math Courses, when you need math help in a non-math class, Technology tutors who can help with 100-level programming courses, as well as with questions about Microsoft or Google apps or Canvas, and Nursing Math, which is specifically for help with medical math for nurses.
