Welcome to the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety (DPS) website. Our website contains information about security, personal safety and support services available to you, as well as information about parking and transportation services.

DPS provides complete law enforcement services to the campus. Our police officers are licensed by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and authorized to enforce all federal, state, local laws and rules of the University of Michigan. Our officers are also deputized by Genesee County. Our officers are well trained in services unique to an academic institution. We are dedicated to the community policing philosophy  as a way of delivering police services to  our campus community.

Emergency Alert System

Your safety is the top concern of UM-Flint. In the event of an emergency on campus, this website will contain detailed information for you. This information may include:

  • Status of the university, including cancellation of classes
  • Emergency contact information
  • All press releases related to an emergency

Communication in the midst of a crisis is paramount to helping our campus community reduce risk. UM-Flint will provide students, faculty and staff with alerts and informational updates as necessary.

Report a Crime or Concern

University community members, students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to report all crimes and public safety related incidents to police in a timely manner. Bystanders or witnesses are encouraged to report when a victim is unable to report. Help keep our campus community safe – Call DPS as soon as you become aware of any crime, suspicious activity, or public safety concern.

*DPS has police jurisdiction on any UM-Flint property; if the incident occurred off-campus the report should go to the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction. DPS can help you determine the applicable law enforcement jurisdiction.

Note: The University of Michigan-Flint does not have policies or procedures for victims or witnesses to report crimes on a voluntary, confidential basis for inclusion in the Annual Security Report.
