What is an MCard?

The Mcard is an ID card for students, faculty, and staff of the University of Michigan-Flint. The Mcard features a photo of the holder, the holder’s name, association (student or department for faculty and staff), and University of Michigan ID Number.

OBTAINING AN MCARD

The Department of Public Safety has taken over the Mcard processes and distribution of the UMFlint Mcards.
If you have any issues or concerns with your Mcard, please contact DPS for support at Flint.DPS.Support@umich.edu.

New Students

All incoming student will use the self-service Student Mcard Portal to submit their Mcard photo.
Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, DPS will be handing out Mcards by mail or appointment. In order to receive your Mcard in the mail, you must:

  • Be registered for classes.
  • Send DPS an email with a valid mailing address and a copy of the FRONT and BACK of your USA government issued photo ID or Passport.

If you do not have a drivers license or passport, a birth certificate and a parent or guardian's drivers license will suffice.
All information on your government issued documents should be clear and legible.

NEW FACULTY AND STAFF

All newly onboarded faculty and staff members will submit their Mcard photo and documents directly to Flint.DPS.Support@umich.edu. Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, DPS will be handing out Mcards by mail or appointment. In order to receive your Mcard, you must:

  • Be newly employed with UM-Flint as a faculty member or staff member.
  • Send DPS an email with a valid mailing address and a copy of the FRONT and BACK of your USA government issued photo ID or Passport.
  • All information on your government issued documents should be clear and legible.
  • Please identify your receipt preference for mail delivery or in-person pickup.

What are the Mcard photo requirements?

  • Face forward: Face the Camera. No hands or arms touching face.
  • A head shot: Shoulders and above.
  • Background: Plain and light colored.
  • In Color: No filters or black and white or sepia.
  • In-focus: The image must be clear and sharp.
  • Recent Photo: Taken within the last six months.
  • No Accessories: No hats, bandanas, sunglasses, etc.
MCard Pickup

MCARD USES

Prove that you are a current student/Faculty/Staff/Recreation Center Member.

Functions as a library card and a quick login card for using the printers in the open computer labs

Swipe access into open computer labs and other authorized areas

Functions as a debit card for the Dining Dollars meal plan account in the Riverview Dining Room and the University Center Food Court.

Faculty and staff who pay for parking on the UM-Flint campus can easily use their Mcard for parking in the faculty/staff parking facilities on the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor campus.

CHECK MCARD MEAL PLAN

You are able to check the meal plan on your Mcard by going to Residential Meal Plans. You will need your uniqname and password to log in.

Replacement Mcards

All Faculty, Staff and Students who need a replacement Mcard must follow the procedure below.

A valid government issued photo identification card (such as a driver's license or passport) is required to obtain your Mcard.

Expired Mcards

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, DPS has extended the will be extending Mcards that will be expiring until June 1st, 2021. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact DPS at Flint.DPS.Support@umich.edu.

STOLEN OR LOST MCARDS

Similar to other lost items, a lost Mcard may turn up after some searching. It is recommended to not replace the Mcard immediately.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Lost Mcard fee of $10 will be suspended until September 1st, 2021.

If you have lost your Mcard, please email Flint.DPS.Support@umich.edu stating the loss of the Mcard along with a valid mailing address and a copy of the FRONT and BACK of your USA Government issued ID or Passport.

Note: All photo ID and non-photo ID cards are the property of the University of Michigan and must be surrendered upon request.

FOUND MCARDS

If an Mcard is found and returned to the Department of Public Safety, an email will notify the cardholder of where they can retrieve it.

PREVIOUS MCARDS

Once a replacement Mcard is issued, all previous Mcards become invalid. If a cardholder locates a previously lost Mcard (after a replacement card is issued), the previously lost card cannot be re-activated or used to turn in to an ID Issuing Station to avoid paying a replacement fee or receive a refund.  According to the University's Standard Practice Guide 601.13, each member of the University is allowed only one identification card, the Mcard, at a time.
