Transfer Pathways
In collaboration with local community colleges, UM-Flint designed simplified transfer pathways to support your transition to studying with us. Following these pathways, which clearly outline program-specific requirements and course equivalencies, ensures the most reliable and efficient transfer process, saving you time and money.
Transfer Admissions Deadlines
- Fall (Priority Deadline): August 27th
- Fall (Final Deadline): Two business days before the first day of classes
- Winter: January 6th
- Spring: May 3rd
- Summer: June 28th
Make Your Credits Count at UM-Flint—Transfer Requirements
At the University of Michigan-Flint, we embrace and value the experience, achievements, and talents you bring to us. During the transfer process, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions considers your academic performance and achievements at all postsecondary schools attended. The university may also consider nonacademic factors—such as leadership qualities, talents, conduct, and citizenship—when making an admission decision.
To qualify for transfer admission, you must meet the following requirements:
- 2.0 minimum college GPA
- High school GPA (with fewer than 24 college credits).
- Students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a regionally accredited institution may be admitted regardless of GPA.
- Students may be admitted based on unofficial college transcripts. However, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted as soon as they are available.
You must complete at least 30 credits at UM-Flint to complete a bachelor’s degree from our campus. You must also satisfy all requirements for the degree you are pursuing.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Transferring to UM-Flint
Transferring to a new college or university can be a lot to manage. To alleviate any stress, we’ve created a simplified process, allowing you to focus on embarking on an exciting journey to earning your U-M bachelor’s degree.
Step 1: Apply Online
We recommend submitting your online application as soon as possible. Our application is free. You can expect an admission decision 1-2 weeks after all required materials have been received.
Step 2: Submit Official Transcripts
To receive an initial admission decision, you must submit official or unofficial transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended. You must also submit a high school transcript if you have earned fewer than 24 semester hours of college credits.
While an admission decision can be made using unofficial transcripts, UM-Flint requires you to submit official transcripts by the beginning of your first semester. If official transcripts from all previous institutions are not submitted, you may be unable to enroll in classes or receive financial aid.
We encourage you to have official transcripts sent electronically. Electronic transcripts arrive sooner, allowing us to make an admission decision as quickly as possible. You may also send transcripts by mail to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
UM-Flint considers transcripts official if sent directly from the issuing school to UM-Flint, either electronically or by mail. If you email transcripts to the university, they can be used to make an initial admission decision but are not considered official.
If applicable, Advancement Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores should also be submitted when you apply.
Step 3: Apply for Scholarships
To help lower the cost of earning your degree, UM-Flint offers a wide range of Merit Scholarships for transfer students. All transfer applicants are considered for the University of Michigan-Flint Transfer Scholarship, which awards $2,500 per year for two academic years to transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. The university awards this scholarship automatically if you meet the eligibility requirements.
UM-Flint also offers other scholarship opportunities; however, they may require a separate application. We strongly encourage all applicants to apply for scholarships, regardless of academic or economic background.
Step 4: Review Your Credits
The university completes your official transfer credit review at the time of admission. When it is completed, you can see your transfer credit review via your online student account.
If you’d like to know how your credits may transfer before applying, you can use our simple online transfer equivalency tool. Even if a class isn’t listed in our database, it may still be eligible for transfer credit upon review.
UM-Flint only awards transfer credit for courses taken at a regionally accredited institution and passed with a grade of “C” (2.0) or above.

Apply for Financial Aid
To qualify for financial aid and lower the costs of earning your bachelor’s degree, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). No matter your financial circumstances, we recommend submitting your FAFSA, which opens on October 1 each year; however, UM-Flint has a priority deadline of March 1. Applying by this priority deadline ensures you receive the most aid available. UM-Flint’s school code is 002327.
